INTRODUCTION

This page is to introduce you to the various officers and chairmen and their functions for the year 2006.  We welcome any input you might have to improve our services to the members and the golfing community.  Contact any of the board members listed above.

Tournament Chairman--Dale Chandler

Dale develops the Association’s tournament schedule and rules for the calendar year.  He may cancel or reschedule tournaments during the year because of weather or other unusual circumstances.  If you have any questions concerning the tournaments, please contact Dale.

Handicap Chairman--L. E. Clarke

Handicaps are calculated every two months from scores recorded in ASGA tournament play only.  Scores must be totaled and attested by your signature.  When four scores are on the same score card, your initials are required below your score.  If your score is incomplete, not totaled, or not attested, you may be given a par score for use in computing your handicap.  If you have any questions concerning your handicap, please contact L. E.

PARD Advisory Board Representative--Travis Eckert

Travis is our representative to the Austin Parks and Recreation Golf Advisory Board.  He works toward the promotion of the ASGA interests as it relates to the City of Austin, City Council, and other public bodies.  He is our publicity person.

Bar-B-Que Chairman--Jim Shipwash

In 2006, our annual Bar-B-Que will be held on October 18 at the Jimmy Clay Pavilion.  It has been suggested that we have dessert for this event.  If a member or member’s spouse would like to furnish a dessert, please contact a board member.

Special Events Chairman--Clyde Ward

One of the objectives of the Association is to assist in furtherance of the interest of golf in the Austin area.  Each year we are asked to assist in the UT men’s and women’s intercollegiate tournaments and the boy’s and girl’s state high school tournament by being ball spotters and doing other activities as assigned.  If you would like to be of assistance in any of these tournaments, please contact Clyde.

Remarks From the President

It is an honor to be elected and serve as the president of the Austin Senior Golf Association for 2006.  My thanks to Jan Smith, the 2005 Board of Directors and the Committee members for their excellent handling of the Austin Senior Golf Association.  I look forward to working with the 2006 Board of  Directors and committee members.  Our objective is to continue the process that has worked so well in the past.  Since the main reason we exist is to compete with fellow golfers of a similar skill level, therefore, it is imperative that we all know and play by the rules both of the ASGA and the USGA.  Also, we want to continue to attract new members in order to maintain the size of our membership.  Under my leadership, the 2006 Board of Directors will maintain an open door policy.  We will entertain and respond, in a timely manner, to written suggestions from any member who has an idea of how to improve our organization.

To repeat a new phrase:  PLAY GOLF AMERICA.
