At a special ASGA board meeting on 20 May 2009, Mr. Murphy Hawkins was unanimously elected as Honorary Lifetime Member of ASGA. This award (see certificate below) was presented by ASGA President, L. E. Clarke, in recognition of Mr. Hawkins' many contributions to ASGA and the Austin golf community in general. For ASGA, Mr. Hawkins' 23 years of active participation includes service as President, Vice President, Handicap Chairman, and Delegate At Large. For the Austin golf community in general, Mr. Hawkins has volunteered his time and talent for the past 15 years as a putting instructor at the Austin Junior Golf Academy. In addition, Mr. Hawkins has donated his ASGA tournament winnings to Austin golf projects including several hundred dollars toward construction of the Joe Ballander short course at the Clay/Kizer golf complex and a similar amount to Lions for construction of a practice putting green.
Following the practice begun by Al Chock, ASGA Past President, the ASGA Spring Tournament at Morris Williams on 2 June 2009 will be held in honor of Mr. Hawkins' award, and he will hit the first shot of the tournament.
ASGA is proud to have Mr. Hawkins as an Honorary Lifetime Member, and we congratulate him on his award and appreciate his contributions to our association.
Thanks to Al Chock's son, Alfred Chock, for creating the certificate presented to Mr. Hawkins.
