The city council voted 7-0 to find means within the city budget to relieve the golf enterprise fund the duty of paying the university the annual fee for the use of the Lions golf course, thus freeing up about $450,000 that can now be used on other golf needs, such as course improvements and buildings needs.

ASGA PARD Representative, Travis Eckert, asks that ASGA members support a council resolution related to funding for the annual lease payments for Lions Municipal:
Please let the City Council know of your support for Council Mike Martinez's pending resolution to direct the City Manager to find the funds to relieve the Golf Enterprise fund and the Golf Division of the responsibility of paying the annual Lions' lease payment.
Councilman Martinez's resolution is Item # 34 on next week's City Council Agenda. Mr. Martinez's advice to Austin golfers is to voice their support for this resolution before the vote is taken on Thursday, 10/01/2009. Let the council members know you support the resolution by contacting their offices in favor of item # 34 on the meeting agenda. If you are able to attend the Council Meeting, item #34 is set to be considered during Thursday's morning session from 10 A.M. to noon in the Council Chambers at city hall.
By freeing the Golf Enterprise fund of the current payment of the $414,720 annual lease payment to UT, the Golf Division can use this money to support Austin public golf in many other much needed ways.
