Glen Richard Hayden, age 81, died on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Glen was born on February 24, 1928 in Seymoure, Texas. He grew up in Mason, Texas and the surrounding hill country. Glen served in the U.S. 6th Army as a Corporal from 1946 until February 1948. Glen and wife Betty June Drennan were married on October 17, 1953 in Sonora, Texas. They moved to Austin in 1957.
Mr. Hayden soon went to work for the City of Austin and served many years as an inspector. Glen started his construction company, Hayden Concrete, in 1970, and the company has been in continuous operation ever since.
Glen was a World Champion bass fisherman and avid outdoorsman. He was referred to as "Horseshoe Hayden" by many, due to his uncanny ability to catch fish when no one else could. He also enjoyed hunting and golfing with his many lifelong friends and family. According to ASGA President, L. E. Clarke, Mr. Hayden was a member of ASGA for about 10 years but had to drop out for medical reasons in about 2003.
Visitation was held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral Services were at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 in the Memorial Chapel of Cook- Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home. Interment followed the service at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery. The Hayden family has requested memorials be sent to the Crestview Baptist Church.
