James "Jim" William Richardson was born on July 26, 1926, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and died on March 21, 2009 at the age of 82. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jeannette; daughter, Linda Carter and husband Donnie; two grandsons, Donnie Carter, Jr. and wife Amanda, Ronnie Carter and wife Christina; three great-grandsons, Cody, Nicholas and Kristopher Carter; and many loving friends and beloved dog, "Maxx".
Jim was a World War II veteran, serving with the 42nd Rainbow Division. He was honored to have been a member of the first unit to liberate Dachau Concentration Camp. He also served in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and dearly loved being at the deer lease. When he wasn't at the deer lease he loved golfing. He was a proud member of the Austin Senior Golf Association.
Some ASGA members may recall that during the ASGA tournament at Lions Municipal on 17 June 2008, Jim Richardson made his first "official" hole-in-one on the par 3 15th hole. He used a 9 iron. Witnesses were Frank Severn, Jay Davis, and Tommy Warner. At the time, Jim stated that this was actually his second hole-in-one, but the first one didn't count because it was during a quick 2-hole practice session at MoWilly with Jim Shipwash during which he made an "unofficial" hole-in-one at the par 3 8th hole.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Donnie Jr., Ronnie, great-grandson, Cody; Glen Hayden, Frank Severn, James Doss and Andy Murchison. Honorary Pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Nicholas and Kristopher and members of the Austin Senior Golf Association.
The family will receive visitors at Cook-Walden Funeral Home on North Lamar on Monday, March 23, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the Colonial Chapel of Cook- Walden Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Austin Memorial Park.
ASGA expresses condolences to Jim's family and friends.
