CRAWFORD, Walter Maurice, 89, retired firefighter and former ASGA member died Saturday, 17 April 2010. Mr. Crawford was raised in Austin and caddied at Hancock and Lions Municipal Golf Course where he was said to be one of Harvey Penick's favorite caddies during the depression. He joined the U.S. Navy after Pearl Harbor and served throughout the Pacific in the Navy construction battalions. After WWII, he returned to Austin and served as a firefighter, later moving to Houston where he retired after 21 years. He continued his career as a general contractor and avid golfer. He later moved back to Austin where he and his wife Elizabeth resided.
